Default Rose parade in HD on CITY??

In the web site http://www.tvtechnology.com/dailynews/cat.php?cat=3 it says:

Los Angeles' WB affiliate KTLA-DT will broadcast the 115th annual Rose Parade on New Year's Day in HD beginning at 6 a.m. with "Backstage at the Parade" followed at 7 a.m. by the "Parade Countdown" and then the parade itself.

KTLA will distribute the Rose Parade national HD feed to Discovery HD! and internationally on Canada-based CityTV. WB affiliate KRON in San Francisco and the Travel Channel will transmit the analog version.

Does this mean CITY's HD service will be up and running on Jan 1? If so, will Rogers be carrying this?

I am bit of a rose parade freak -- I have watched it for many years and I would really like to see it in HD!

Mind you, City could just be taping it for later broadcast, or perhaps it will only be made available to satellite and cable systems (and not broadcast off-air by them).

put it on another thread but I'm hearing Jan 16 for City so it's hard to imagine they'll make Jan 1

Yes, I saw the Jan 16 date. Bummer. I suspect that was an old news item I posted that may have been true back when CITY expected to go live in October. I see that the URL I quoted does not give the same page I was looking at when I saw that item and if I go to their home page and attempt to find the same news item, I can't find it!! (I found the original news item using google.) I apologize for not checking more carefully.

Oh well, it was a good dream while it lasted! There is always the possibility that they will tape it and show it later.

Like I said though, they may make the feed available to satellite and cable on the day of the event. Just because they are not on-air with DTV does not mean they can't supply an HD signal.

I contacted Citytv and got the following response:

Quote:

I was wondering if there was any update as to when Citytv's HD station would
be going on the air. (or over Cable via Rogers HD)

This article http://www.tvtechnology.com/dailynews/cat.php?cat=3

includes a quote:
KTLA will distribute the Rose Parade national HD feed to Discovery HD! and
internationally on Canada-based CityTV. WB affiliate KRON in San Francisco
and the Travel Channel will transmit the analog version.

Is this to suggest that CityTV's HD station will be up and running for New
Years??

Thanks,
The CRTC held a non-appearing hearing on Monday Nov 18.

Hopefully we will receive permission soon to begin over-the-air transmission
on channel 53. Rogers Cable TV will carry our HD programming soon as well.

Our Programming department is working on securing High Definition content
which will include Smallville and selected movies.

There has been some discussion about carrying the Rose Bowl Parade but this
will not occur.

Thank you for your e-mail.

"Soon" -- There's that word again!!

Anyway, thanks for the apparently definitive response re the rose parade.

At least Smallville is good news -- hopefully "soon" will be in time for the first new episode in January!

I have not seen any news item on CITY carrying the 2004 Rose Parade in HD.

Does anyone know if any of the stations Rogers carries will be doing it in HD?

(I wish they would carry a HD version of a WB station!)

*** Followup (Dec 27): Rogers preview channel (280) description on the electronic guide is announcing that they are carryng the KTLA HD broadcast of the Rose Parade. Yeh!!
