Has anybody noticed any changes to the performance of the firmware/IPG in recent days?

(I've noticed that for the last two weeks Rogers seems to have been downloading new firmware ever second day or so - and I just figured out today that I need to change several recordings I've got that record at 4am to another time of the day so that they won't be missing huge chunks out of the middle of them.)

But I think I've noticed some changes made yesterday, or the day before. Perhaps you can confirm them for me.

I've been incredibly ticked off by the bug that causes the guide to jump back to the program list when you end a show you are watching and hit stop and try to delete it. I've noticed that this only happens some of the time now.

And is it my imagination, or have they messed up things starting yesterday, whereby now when I want to resume watching a program, when I select a partially watched program from the stored programs, the menu prompts me to start at the beginning. I think up until a few days ago the default suggestion was to resume a partial program where I had finished off. The result is that if I don't slow down and carefully check the menu, several times I've lost my place in a partly watched program, and I've had to figure out how much I've watched all over again.

And did they just add the actual name of the program you are watching to the info bar at the bottom of the screen when you FF or pause? I'm pleased it is there now - but it wasn't there several days ago? Was it? Or was I just not seeing it before?

And have you noticed that SOME of the stupid reminders that you have done something have disappeared? - you know, where you have to click on the OK to remind yourself that you just deleted a program

Heads up guys! Just had a reboot this morning on my 4642 box.

Current firmware version 3.0.0.1612 dated March 14.
UI version 3.1.5.24.04.09.11/28392

No idea what it fix or broke in this update.

^^
Fix: No more annoying confirmation pop up when scheduling in the guide.

Broken: Just noticed that you can't press 'D' to exit the weather app even though it still says 'Press D to exit'. Also you can no longer exit the search menu by pressing the * button. Very annoying. This Nextbox project is really starting to look like some of the first year papers I'm marking. Sigh...

Here's a link to the manual for the Cisco RTN Interface that Rogers is using. As you can see, Rogers implemented pretty much implemented everything the same way except with the red branding. Also, the manual indicates that you CAN in fact skip back and forth 30 seconds during recordings and live shows by pressing page up and down so it's baffling why Rogers didn't implement this because it seems to be a standard feature. Also judging by the manual this interface doesn't seem to be very feature rich. Wonder how much room, service providers like Rogers have to customize this.

Whats the fastest way to determine the above version numbers on a Cisco 8642 box?

Is it only via the diagnostic screen?
(Power off then hold [Vol+] and [Info]. )

Yes, the 8642 has also been updated.
I will have to wait until I get home to see what's different about it - since we don't have any "release notes" on this revision.

D to exit when wheather pop-up still doesnt work.
also....not a bug but a preference:
when changing aspect ratio by pressing # the dialogue box is huge and offensive. I prefer the small popup of normal, stretch, zoom1 and zoom 2 from the 8300.

Weird. At 3:59 am this morning, while I'm listening to a recording of Comedy Now while I'm falling asleep, the screen goes blank, and then I hear the hard drive start writing/reading a mile a minute.

Me, being half asleep, I think, "Oh, maybe it's doing another update. It is that time of the morning."

But 10 minutes later, my screen is still blank, so I reach for my glasses and check the display - and it's still sitting at 3:59 am. ????????????

I've never had it do this before. So I wait a few minutes - thinking maybe it's doing a "sneaky" update - but no. So I risk bricking the box and pull out the power, and then it did what I think is a normal update. Right now the red bar at the bottom of the screen is almost all the way across the screen. OK. It's done and Loading has disappeared.

But the firmware hadn't updated. It was still:
Software version 3.0.0.1612
UI Version 3.1.5.24.04.09.11/28392
As of March 29

The same as it was the day before.

Hmmm. So it did a normal reboot after being unplugged. No update.

This is the first time I've seen my box freeze like that.

Thanks 57.

I would also like to add that while I was reading the Cisco website that I was reminded that Cisco bought Scientific Atlanta and that is why the box evolotion has moved from the 8300 to the 8642. I also came acros the internal sku numbers that Cisco uses for the various set tops availible to cable providers.

Cisco 8642 HD 160gb #TBD
Cisco 8642 HD 320gb #4028600
Cisco 8642 HD 500gb #4034541

Ive checked the futureshop site......the 500gb sale is extended to April 12th and the 100 dollare gift cert. is gone. I bring this up here as I now believe that the 160gb version is unoffically discontinued given Cisco's odd sku number TBD (to be discontinued)?

The 160gb is still availible from FS. Do not buy it even if they discount them in the future. I believe that some known bugs are hardware related with the responsivness of the 160gb models and some lower transfer read/write issues of the earlier internal hdd.

I'm looking for more info.....I bought a 160gb new from FS 30 days ago and had it returned after discovering something strange here.
