There are Firelog rentals (free) available in the VOD.
Does anyone know if they will offer a HD version? Will there be a 24 dedicated channel through the holidays? |

Currently (as you mentioned), MTS offers the fireplace as a free video on demand rental. For technical reasons, it makes more sense to offer it as a Video on Demand rental (VOD you pretty much upload the video and the information, set the removal date and price and it's live. A TV channel means you have to edit the programming guide list/data, have a server setup streaming the channel 24/7 (even if no one is watching), upgrade channel mapping/grouping so that the channel is included in something like a basic group so everyone can get it, then push an update to all the set tops to update their information -- then, because it's only for December, have someone go back in the new year and undo it all).
On MTS Ultimate TV, VOD appears in the Guide as a dedicated channel, so once you order it you could flip back and forth to it. (It automatically pauses when you change off the channel, and resumses when you channel back). Regarding an HD fireplace, I don't suspect so this year. At this time, MTS does not offer HD VOD (the system is capable of it though), which is likely how this would be presented in the future given all the work that would need to be done to create a new channel. |

MTS TV has 5 fireplace scenes this year. They are available as Video on Demand under "Free Stuff". Press the VOD button on your remote to get the VOD menu.
They are still free this year. MTS Internet customers can also have the fireplace on their PC. http://www.mymanitoba.com/fireplace/ |

Nice to see MTS continue to offer this service free to its loyal customers unlike a certain competitor.

The recent media attention caused Shaw to back down and its now Free 24/7 on a dedicated channel. http://digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=133350
But I think its cool MTS has 5 versions. Do some of them play christmas music or is it a different fire?

Each video is 2 hours.
Big Blaze Natural Sound Big Blaze with Music Colourful Blaze with Music Cozy Fireplace Natural Sound Electric Fireplace with Music The first 2 choices (Big Blaze) are the same video with a different sound track. Since MTS uses IPTV it's pretty easy for them to offer lots of choices. |

What happened to the Fireplaces w/o music?
I like hearing the crackling while listening to my own music. |

Is the 2011 MTS Fireplace TV starting soon.
Any changes this year? A HD version? A dedicated channel? |

Based on posts from previous years it seems to start on Dec 3. I wonder though if it might get rolled out as part of (or after) the Dec 8 changes.

I happened to be talking with Customer Care today on an unrelated matter, and asked about the fireplaces. the rep said she heard they are being turned on Dec 1, and that there will be both SD and HD versions this year

Haha, as a plasma user, I was worried about burn-in. Also, the plasma will put out the heat like a real fireplace (although my 2011 model is much better in all regards, and only barely over 1.5" thick).
Great to hear an HD version coming! |

I noticed that there are 2 fireplace options on VOD but both are in SD. I was hoping for an HD version as they don't look good on my big tv.
