Hi,

My 83 year old parents need a phone for when they are out. Here are my considerations....

They will use it rarely, so don't want a contract.
They have an iPad so are familiar with layout.
I have a 4 and a 4S out of contract just sitting
Ease of use with big buttons important
Easy camera use wanted

I am leaning toward an iPhone but do I have to get a $30 month contact?

Thanks for your advice

I assume since you posted in the TELUS forum that it's a TELUS phone. You can go with TELUS prepaid pay-per-use (not the rate plan). If you top up with $100 it's good for a year or until it runs out whichever comes first.

For some reason finding the $100 top up option is difficult but believe me it's available. I have this for my father's phone. Every month when I view my online statement I check his balance and top it up for him if needed. Very convenient.

Edit:
Ok, it wasn't that difficult after all. Here is the top-up info:

+1 for Speakout Wireless recommendation, if phone is unlocked (or on Rogers)

note you can buy as little as $25 prepaid top-up which also does not expire for 1 year, so for low usage no need to go with $100/yr. We buy that for my father-in-law - he barely touches the $25/yr but has the phone available to him for low usage and emergency purposes.
