Hi,
I have a SHARP AQUOS TV, Model Number: LC-37D62U, which I purchased a few years ago. It is now no longer turning on. It clicks on, but then goes into a pattern of : (x=off) (0=on) ----(0) 2x---------(x)------------(0) 2x---- (Power) (Sleep) (OPC) Over and over, I have researched this problem but for nearly all others the power led powers on again, since this is not the case for me, do you think I can fix it without having to get a new power or main (or other) board? I have searched and tried all the things I can do without opening it up and none worked. Called SHARP (and their affiliated repair shop) and they told me the pattern I have described requires service so basically it can't be fixed without opening it up, and they say it will probably cost a few hundred bucks. I couldn't find anything online about being able to repair it myself, I have never fixed a tv (hardware wise) before but I have done a few pcs, laptops and 2 ps3. Do you guys think I can do this? Thank You. |

Modern TVs are worse than computers because you can't replace parts yourself. You either pay to repair or buy a new TV.

Here's a list of things to check/try - like unplugging the TV overnight to see if it resets, etc:

The most common failure that concerns turning these TVs on and off is a failing or failed capacitor, usually on the power supply unit (PSU) or sometimes the inverter, or both. If you are handy with a soldering gun it is worth taking the back off the TV and having a look at the power supply unit. Look for capacitors where the top is bulged, or it is leaking at the bottom. Usually the suspect caps are 10V 1000uF, or 3300uF. I have fixed a couple of flat panel TVs for friends/relatives with these problems although I mainly restore old vintage stereos as a hobby. The replacement parts are cheap.

As Bisonguy suggests, caps in the power supply would be my first suspect and easily repaired by any electronics tech or knowledgeable diy'er. Sharp will just farm this work out anyway so you might as well cut out the middleman.
