another difficult-to-answer question for you:
You already know I can't install an outdoor antenna ( landlord). And Mt. Mansfield is approx. 75-80 miles from home, maybe a little less ( I'll try to find the VT antenna gps coordinates and then use my portable gps unit to figure this one out.)
A silver sensor will not cut it, except for CBC, SRC-DT.
I was leaning towards the CM4228, which could be installed behind my patio door, facing south. But even this setup would be a hit or miss. And then I wouldn't even think of installing this big one on the roof ,if the patio door is a no go.
Then, more googling showed me the RS 15-2160. Loved by many, hated by some. Yagi UHF type. In my case, interior installation may be feasible, but with a twist. Behind the patio door, I have exactly 40 inches clearance, front to back ( tiny place there between the stairway and the front wall) , which is the exact length of the antenna. Not even an inch of allowance to adjust the aiming towards VT. So the question, you can guess it, is this one : Can I shorten the main boom length by 1 or 2 inches without creating a severe adverse effect on the antenna capability? How much would I lose?
Question number 2: RS sell the 1171 amplifier, which is a cable amp with very low noise and is known to be a great match for this antenna on DT reception. But the gain is, if I remember well, 19 db. An email to Raybel today gave a negative reply as to the availability of any channelmaster ( 7775 or 7777) amp, in or around Montreal.
Would I be better off with a higher gain amp? Addison has one with 30db gain, noise unknown...Of course, I'm well aware that even if a 100db gain amp could be bought, if the signal doesn't reach the antenna, well...........
thanks in advance for the reply
