Default Ebert: No thumbs, up or down, on TV show

LOS ANGELES - Roger Ebert has turned thumbs down on thumb reviews for "At the Movies with Ebert & Roeper."

Ebert, who is negotiating a new contract with the syndicated TV show's distributor, Disney-ABC Domestic Television, is a copyright holder on the signature "thumbs up-thumbs down" judgment that's part of each film review.

Best wishes to Roger ... I cannot wait to see him back on TV doing what he does so well ... reviewing movies. I may not always agree with his reviews, but he has introduced me to many movies over the years that I would have otherwise missed ... movies that never got the big press and only had limited releases.

Unfortunately it looks unlikely that he'll ever be back on TV. He's totally lost the ability to speak, and he's still very fragile, needing regular medical attention.

^^^ It looks like Roger himself actually commented on the blog entry with more insight. Very interesting read indeed.

I watched the latest programme without the thumbs and actually liked it better. The reviewers had to articulate better their feelings about the movie.
