Default High School Musical 2 sets ratings records in Canada and U.S.

Last Friday's premiere of High School Musical 2 (HSM2) on Canada's Family Channel drew a record 1 million viewers, making it one of the highest-rated programs for a Canadian specialty broadcaster in the last five years.

Wow those numbers are huge for that kind of thing. We actually watched a little of it at our house.

I guess that and the record US ratings defeats the major networks argument that people don't watch TV on Friday nights. People don't watch TV on Friday nights because all they air is crap. And if they don't air crap one night and get lousy ratings, then it's more likely that people are just so used to crap, that they don't even think of watching.

Well we watched at our house!

It was mindless drivel but the kids loved it and I certainly have watched much worse.

Its nice that Disney is once again proving that good family entertainment can make money and lots of it.

I got off the hook easy as my 11yr old daughter watched it at a slumber party they had planed for a few days(around the movie). Surprised it beat a Harry Potter showing.

It sounds like it is coming out on DVD and Blu-ray on December 11th as an extended version. Extras include a sing-along feature, high school Karaoke, rehearsal cam, bloopers, and music videos.
