I'm happy with the Shaw phone with an unlisted number.

That's a good one!
I like how Shaw lets me keep my number unlisted (for no extra charge) but I can still have it show up on call display (so people don't filter out my calls). Telus went all the the way for unlisted (and they charge extra). I like how Shaw can hybrid the best of both worlds with it. |

I also like the unlisted feature. When I want to show my phone number, I dial *82 first before the number that I am calling. I put my family member number on speed dial with the *82 added.

thanks for the replies guys...was a little skeptical when I was standing in their office and they were offering me packages and two minutes later saying the price had changed and they could no longer offer me those packages at that price...
heck, they are confusing for new customers... |

Shaw service is pretty good in general (customer service, and reliability of the actual service). Like others, my complaint is over the ever-massively-increasing prices...

Their Internet has been reliable as heck! I can't remember the last time it was down. (knock on wood!) ;-) I don't think there is an ISP in NA that offers 250Mbps. Their phone was always reliable too and doesn't affect your Internet at all.

![]() My experience with Shaw has been mostly positive. Their Internet speeds are great with fair prices, cheap long distance charges, and I got hold of DCX3200 free rental when Shaw had that deal to get people to switch to Personal TV. |

@tablo, I think the complete requirements are "full-time post-secondary student".

I do have a few gripes with Shaw, but there are positive things to say about them as well. I find their service to be very reliable. I think my Internet connection only went down once in the past two years, same with the phone. My cable TV has always worked. I had an issue with not receiving Space channel in HD when it first came out, but they sent a tech out and fixed it in short order. I switched over to the Shaw Plan Personalizer just before the New Year and took HDNet as one of my channels. They discontinued carrying HDNet in March but continued to bill me for it through May. When I brought this to their attention, they credited my account for that channel for a month and a half plus also gave me an additional credit of $7.90 on top of that.

I'd have good things to say if they had some kind of upgrade offer to upgrade my cable box to a DCX-3400... I've been with shaw for 15 years +/- and with them adding channels that are MPEG4 now, it would be nice for them to offer a deal to us Shaw Friends members to upgrade our box so we can receive the newer channels they are adding without having to upgrade to the Gateway system...

I do have to echo the sentiments of Ggellert...I too am a long time Shaw customer, never in arrears, and subscribe to phone, cable TV and Internet. I'm even a member of Shaw friends. I bought a DCT3416I directly from Shaw in 2008 for $732 including GST. This box of course cannot do MPEG-4 and they are doing basically nothing to give me an upgrade path at a discount. They told me they would take my DCT3416 in trade for a second Gateway portal if I wanted to upgrade to the Gateway system. That really does me no good. Now I see that they have significantly jacked up the price of the hardware.

Maybe you could find someone in Edmonton who has, say, a DCX3400 that they want to trade for a Portal.
Buy their DCX3400 and pay for it with your DCT3416 and some cash, say the value of a Portal. Then they can trade the DCT3416 for a Portal and keep the cash and you have converted your DCT3416 to a DCX3400 at a substantial discount. The only wrinkle might be the warranty. I am not sure that the Shaw Friends warranty would apply to the DCX3400 after it was transferred to its new owner. I am still waiting for clarification on that one. |
